Five Letters That Guide Us to Answers: Trust and Faith

Most of us have heard the popular catchphrase, “Got Milk?” I propose “Got Faith?” What must operate within us to ignite our faith? T-R-U-S-T. How many times is trust mentioned in the bible? Hundreds of times. A few weeks ago, my sister in the faith mentioned something that caused me to reflect.

Even when it seems like things may be falling apart, they’re actually falling into plan.

Thanks, Edlyn. How many times have we reached a crossroads, a situation, or a circumstance that rocked us to our core or tested our faith in the Most High? It may have had us question ourselves, or even the Father—why we lost that job, loved one, or everything in between.

Over the years, I’ve taken many hitsfinancially, emotionally, spiritually. Persevering through ridicule and disdain from the very people I’m praying for—loved ones who could care less about seeking after the Father. I’ve lifted His name up while engaging with souls that honor the flesh and willingly choose deception. Yet, I muster up the strength to carry on. Can you relate? In those times, I had to lean upon His word and cast my cares upon Him (1 Peter 5:7). I had to meditate upon his word and remember, “Trust in the Master with all your heart; lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your path” (Proverbs 3:5-7).

We must dig deep and examine ourselves: Who am I trusting? What am I trusting in? You may find that you’ve placed the Father on the back burner and allowed the cares of this world to steal your trust, thereby diminishing your faith in He who sits on high and looks down low.

Imagine that edgy feeling when you sit in a classroom, and the proctor gives the signal to begin your exam. The silence is deafening, and in that moment, all the literature, materials, resources, and study habits you’ve acquired (or floundered) show you just what you’re made of at that moment. It’s only you and the screen. This isn’t middle school or high school, where you or your friend attempted to save the day by giving each other answers by way of cheating. No sir. No ma’am. This is pass or fail, each carrying its own unique consequence. It may be the difference between a promotion or demotion, acquiring a certification, or paying the cost to take the test again.

Let’s shift this example to the spirit. You’ve prayed for that thing to be removed from your life—elevation, a deeper relationship with the Father and Messiah, whatever it is. Oftentimes, we get in the way of Yahuah’s move in our lives. We seek to control, make rash decisions based on fear, or stay stagnant, going nowhere fast. We wager peace and wisdom for what feels comfortable. We allow toxic thinking to pervade our thoughts and actions, or inaction. Mental ruminations in error breed open doors inviting unclean spirits. Simply put, we don’t slow down before all hell breaks loose. We don’t discipline ourselves to wait upon Him or move when we know we should and there’s a cost for disobedience.

We chase our tails instead of chasing His truth and wisdom for our lives. We chase feelings and thoughts that are not profitable and counterproductive to our situation. I challenge you to reflect upon the last time things appeared to be falling apart. How did you respond? When the dust settled, did you give into faith or fear? Remember, whatever the outcome, there is a choice in how we position our minds as followers of Messiah. We must be resilient. Even if the outcome is far from what we envisioned or realized, Yah has a plan for us, especially when things seem to fall apart. Strengthen your trust in Him, stay in His word, and spend time with Him. Don’t wait until the storm rolls in. Honor him regardless, whether in tough times or harvest. Exercise your faith muscles and put your trust where it belongs—knowing He will get the glory, pass or fail.
